Ellipse is now in a position where its data products and analysis is used in sports competitions around the world, and an Ellipse client may be using our data at any minute of every day throughout the year.

Role Overview:

Ellipse is looking for a Data Scientist to join us at the cutting edge of sports analytics. Working within our new horse racing team, this role is remote with some travel to London required for team meetings. The role is starting ASAP.

Key Responsibilities:

The role will have several responsibilities including:

  • You will be a Data Scientist working within a team of analysts using one of the largest racing databases in the world.
  • You will be analysing various data sources, including granular tracking data, to generate new insights around the performances of horses and jockeys.
  • You will be working within a team to develop new metrics for use by clients such as broadcasters and journalists.
  • You will have full autonomy on ideas and approaches to projects.
  • You may also have the opportunity to work on other sports in the business beyond horse racing.

Key Requirements:

  • Knowledge of machine learning and statistical methods, e.g. linear/logistic regression, decision trees, random forest, unsupervised methods, neural networks etc.
  • Experience with the PyData stack (e.g. pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, XGBoost, matplotlib).
  •  Experience using databases and SQL.
  •  A passion for data & ability to convey complex information through Data Visualisation.
  • Ability to manage different responsibilities and adapt to changing business needs.
  • Interest in and knowledge of horse racing and sports in general.
