LONDON, 11 October 2024: Ellipse, a leading sports data and analytics company, in partnership with Racecourse Media Group (RMG), has been announced as a finalist for the 2024 Broadcast Sport Awards.

This joint award nomination for Best Visual Storytelling using Data and Insight celebrates the innovative use of RaceiQ data and insight in new and engaging ways on Racing TV since its launch.

Racecourse Media Group (RMG) partnered with Ellipse to create a compelling new proposition in horse racing and in November 2023 RaceiQ was launched. Developed by Ellipse’s data engineering and analytics specialists, combined with AI and machine learning, RaceiQ has become integral to Racing TV’s pre- and post-race analysis.

The project has three core objectives for broadcast audiences:

  • Deepen fan understanding: Traditionally, the analysis of races has relied on the interpretation of presenters and pundits. The introduction of RaceiQ allows complex data to be crunched into simple facts to demonstrate to the audience exactly why certain things happen within a race.
  • Offer compelling new narratives: By using these exciting new tools, broadcasters can highlight where a race was won or lost and open up comparisons between horses like never before.
  • Highlight the key to each race: As RaceiQ develops, the proposition will cover all aspects of horse racing, including in-race datapoints, enabling broadcasters to show the right data for a specific race at the right time.

Roderick Grafton, MD – Horse Racing at Ellipse, said: “We are delighted to be shortlisted for such a prestigious award in only our first year. This recognition is testament to the enormous amount of excellent work from our data scientists, analysts and engineers at Ellipse, as well as the talented team at RMG and Racing TV.”

Ed Gretton, Racing Director at RMG, added: “We have been delighted with the implementation and reaction to RaceiQ in its first year, with the data being embraced and vividly brought to life not only on Racing TV, but also on ITV Racing. This nomination is testament to all the hard work put in from the excellent team at Ellipse and our Racing TV production and presenter team, including Angus McNae and the Road to Cheltenham team of Lydia Hislop and Ruby Walsh.”

This year’s Broadcast Sport Awards will be held in London on 14th November 2024.
