Oval Insights, a JV between Ellipse Data and Prospect Sporting Insights, is rugby’s leading data and analytics provider. Our machine-learning models help teams to find an edge on the field and help leagues and broadcasters tell more compelling stories about the game. Our cutting-edge suite of analytical models is powered by our proprietary data collection technology and the sport’s most complete historical archive. We are official data provider for rights holders including United Rugby Championship and Premiership Rugby.

About The Role

Due to the rapid expansion of the business and client portfolio, we are now recruiting for a Managing Director of the business. Working closely with colleagues in both our Leeds and London offices, the successful candidate will be responsible for continuing the rapid growth of the business, curating and implementing business strategy as well as overseeing day-to-day operations. Reporting directly to Oval Insights Board of Directors, responsibilities include:

• Overall executive management of the Oval Insights business, taking responsibility for company strategy, operations and culture, including ultimate ownership of the business’ P&L

• Oversight and support of further business development opportunities

• Oversight of the continued development of our content and betting business verticals

• Support the Product & Performance team with the evolution of Oval Insights’ performance product suite, liaising with Oval Insights’ technology team during the development process 

• Overall management of the Oval Insights’ office in Leeds, ensuring processes and practices are in place to enable the continued development and implementation of a high-performance company culture

• Ensuring the efficient running of our data collection and performance analytics solutions, ensuring that Oval Insights continues to uphold a best-in-class standard of product, delivery and client support

Requirements

• Demonstrated business management experience, with a proven skillset across financial planning & budgeting, business development and contracting

• Outstanding management and leadership skills, including an ability to develop and sustain a collaborative, high-performing working culture and uphold best-in-class standards across the organisation

• A deep personal passion for the sport and a sophisticated understanding of the sports data landscape 

• A proven ability to foster strong working relationships with stakeholders across the rugby landscape, including key personnel at professional teams, rights holders, broadcasters and governing bodies

• Business operations experience, including project management, client contracting and client onboarding
